What a no-heat visit looks like
The technician checks the thermostat, the safety switches, the ignition and the gas or oil supply in that order, because that is the order things fail in. When we recommend replacing
Only when the repair costs more than a third of a new system, or the heat exchanger is cracked. A cracked heat exchanger is a carbon monoxide risk and we shut the furnace down; we also show you the crack with the camera, so you never take our word for it.
